A Purple Tree, Firetrucks, and the Moon…

Monday, March 9th, 2009

It’s been a while since I shared some photos and I finally have some pictures of other things besides our cats.

I have no idea what type of tree this is but it’s flowers are absolutely beautiful. It was really windy the day I took these photos I was actually surprised to find any of the images usable.

I’m not sure why the Fire Department was in our parking lot, but I figured the emergency lights would make for some interesting shots. I wasn’t disappointed.

I went out on our balcony around 1:30 am to check on our plants. The moon was gorgeous and hanging low just above the apartment roofs. I set up the tripod and took some shots with 1 to 1.5 seconds of shutter speed. The resulting images are a bit surreal.

Green Smoothie…

Monday, March 9th, 2009

You can’t read about Raw Foodism with out stumbling on the Green Smoothie. I tends to be the staple of many a Raw Foodists diet. The general formula for a Green Smoothie is 60% fruit/ 40% green leafy vegetables. You put them all on the blender (or a Vita-Mix) and blend till smooth or close to smooth.

The Green Smoothie pictured above is:

2 Bananas ( 230 grams )

Frozen Mango ( 115 grams )

Baby Spinach ( 100 grams )

1.5 cups of water

I know the proportions are slightly off, but that’s the beauty of the Green Smoothie it can be adjusted to fit you pallet or dietary needs. This recipe made 2 pint glasses of smoothie which is about 288 calories.
