21st Century Technicolor…

I happens in every marriage; sooner or later you end up buying your first TV as a couple. Nicole and I made it through 7 years of dating and 4 years of marriage with out ever purchasing a TV. We were given one TV for Christmas by her parents a 4-5 years ago and since we’ve received a steady stream of hand me downs. When we moved to Austin we sold our (175 pound) 32″ Sony tube TV in favor of a smaller and lighter tube TV. (When you’re paying by the pound to have your stuff moved you start to take an odd interest in how heavy things you could normally care less about weigh.)

After moving my plan was to eventually upgrade and join the world of High Definition (Hi Def) television, but with money tight it just wasn’t a huge priority. Recently however I realized we have been watching a lot of TV/Movies and considering how much of our time was spent watching out viewing experience was pretty horrible given current technology. It made sense to me, but I knew it would be a little bit more of a sell to Nicole. I did a little research, found a couple of TV’s that fit our needs and price range. Then I asked Nicole to just come with me to look at them. She could care less about technology to her the number one thing is how does the image look. Which honestly when it comes down to it is the most important thing.

On Memorial Day we made our way over to Circuit City to look at TV’s. It didn’t take long to find one in our price range that we both liked. We purchased it, loaded up the car and headed home to set up our new Hi Def LCD TV. The temperature was in the mid-90’s and by the time we got everything upstairs to our 3rd floor apartment we were drenched with sweat. I took a few minutes to cool down then I started disconnecting the old TV. After the old TV was moved to it’s new home in the second bedroom we started to un-box the new TV. Setup was pretty simple… bolt the bracket to the base and then bolt that assembly to the TV.

Tada….!!!

After everything was hooked up I realized that we didn’t have any true HD Sources to view on the new TV. Doh! Some standard definition channels look great some look pretty bad. I watched The Stanley Cup Game 2 on Versus and it looked pretty good!

I will talk a bit more on sources of HD content later. I have an upscaling DVD player on the way and I picked up a HD Cable Box from Time Warner today. Once I have a chance to explore (read: play with) those two things I will report back.

Hot, Hot, Hot…

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

I think there is no doubt that summer has arrived in Austin… the forecast for the next 10 days has temperature over 90 degrees every day. When I was in Minneapolis on Tuesday I was reminded that it’s not warm every where. The people we had our meeting with were talking about how warm it was that day.. I think the high was in the 60’s.

I guess my blood is starting to thin a little bit cause I was a bit cold.

Home again…

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

After a few delays… I am home again. I got home about 45 mins ago. I am not feeling very good so I am finding it difficult to even consider going to bed. I will post more about the trip tomorrow when I am, hopefully, coherent.

The Mile High City and the Whirlwind Tour…

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Tomorrow morning (Honestly it’s so early I hesitate to call it tomorrow) I am boarding a plane bound for Denver. I will be meeting up with one of Jaduka’s Business Development (fancy way of saying Sales) guys. We have a meeting in Denver and in the early afternoon we will be flying to Minneapolis where we have a meeting on Tuesday. Tuesday evening I will be flying to Chicago to catch a connecting flight back home to Austin.

Hell I am tired just thinking about the trip. So needless to say I may or may not be posting for the next couple of days. I am hoping to get some pictures in Denver since I have never been to the mountains. If I do and I have the time I will post those Monday night.

When I get back I will be posting about some things I have been pondering. About life, getting in to a routine and a whole bunch of other things.

Now I need to go force myself to go bed.

Once again I am a slacker blogger…

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I apologize for not posting for 10 days. I guess the blog got a little “out of sight, out of mind”. Work has been a bit crazy and life has been a bit crazy. I promise I will post something of substance in the next day or two.
