Kayaking Town Lake….

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Nicole and have had the opportunity twice now to get out and paddle Town Lake. The launch is across the street from Stephen F. Austin High School and it’s pretty crowded, but there is tons of parking on the road. You can either go North West (aka right) or South East (aka left). Going NW will take you under MoPac Expressway, towards Town Lake Metro Park and the Dam. Going SE will take you towards Auditorium Shores and downtown Austin. We’ve gone both directions and they are equally pleasant paddles.

There is also a tributary that will take you up in to Zilker Park. We saw a bunch of people paddling in and out from the tributary so we paddle up to discover the reason is there is a canoe/kayak rental “stand” in Zilker Park.

Aquatic traffic jam…

A couple of kids were jumping off this pedestrian bridge so we waited and got a few pics of them jumping. All the images are a bit blurry though.

There are turtles everywhere… we happen to see these two swimming below the surface and our camera is waterproof so I jammed it under the water to take a pic. I didn’t think it turned out until I got home and viewed the image on the computer.

I had just paddled under this train tressel when this train started going across. It freaked me out a bit. On our way back another train went over on our way under. Lucky us..

Some of the Austin skyline.

You can check out the rest of the photos here.

My Precious…

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Wow I really am a slacker. I didn’t even post about acquiring my first fire arm:

A Glock 19 (9mm) with 6 – 15 round magazines (and 2 plastic cases with 100 rounds each)

Buying a gun in Texas is pretty painless for us non felons. It took about 30-45 mins from the time we walked in the door to the time we walked out.

The Glock 19 is a great gun. I have probably put a 1000 or so round through since this picture was taken. I am getting fairly accurate with it. It’s a fun hobby that gets me out of the house. I am going to be joining a local IDPA group that is forming in April. I already have my holster.

Bad Yankee, No Post…

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

I apologize for the lack of posting lately. It seems like most of what I have been doing lately has been working and going to the shooting range. There is only so much that can be said on either of those topics.

I will try to get caught up on anything I have left out.
