Yesterday Nicole and I took the NRA First Steps Pistol class which was taught by John of Caps-CHL. There were suppose to be 5 of us taking the class, but 2 people didn’t show up. I am guessing it was because of the weather. It was 40 degrees, rainy, and windy. Not exactly the most fun conditions to be out on an outdoor pistol range. Luckily the first 3 or so hours took place inside. We went over the parts of the gun, safe handling rules, and the proper shooting grip. We got to handle and dry fire the guns we’d be shooting with later in the day. (Dry firing is pulling the trigger on an unloaded gun.)
Then we drove to the gun range. We got our range cards, eye, and ear protection. It took a few minutes to set up and then John asked who wanted to go first. I volunteered because I knew Nicole was really nervous and I wanted her to see me do it. The recoil of the gun wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. We shot for another hour or so before the rain became unbearable. Everyone did a great job shooting!!
Nicole and I both agree it was very fun. I think we’ve found a new hobby that we both enjoy. We learned a lot and John is a great teacher. I look forward to taking several more classes from him.
Our targets: Mine is on the left and Nicole’s is on the right.

A close up of mine.

Everyone said I did a great job. Hopefully it wasn’t just beginners luck.
