Webmaster Jam Session…

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

The first day of sessions went well and I fell like I learned a lot. Granted most of it is focused on design which isn’t my area of expertise, but it’s good to be able to understand the possibilities and limitations of front end design. That being said a lot of the presentations have been by folks from vendors like Microsoft and Apple so they’ve been delivered with a stealth bias.

Last night was the Microsoft party…. it was pretty cool. We ended up with plenty of drink cards so we drank for free and played some Guitar Hero 2. I met and talked to some cool people… even if they are designers. Tonight is the Adobe party at the Lizard Lounge I believe.

I was planning on posting some pics, but I can’t seem to locate my card reader. Oh well…. I will post them when I find it.

Like U2 said…

Friday, September 21st, 2007

it’s a beautiful day. I had a hard time getting to sleep last night; as a result I had a hard time waking up this morning, but I made it down to breakfast. I had some very good pancakes and bacon. We checked in to the “Webmaster Jam” and the Microsoft guys had an Xbox set up. I fragged my co-workers for a little while. I guess that time Ben and I spent playing Halo 2 paid off.

Now we are waiting for the keynote to start. We lucked out and got seats that have tables for out laptops. Eddie also got the network key so we could log on to the wifi. They also have free Red Bull. As you can see it’s shaping up to a very beautiful day indeed….

In Dallas for the “Webmaster Jam”…

Friday, September 21st, 2007

So the Jaduka development team is in Dallas for the “Webmaster Jam”. It’s an interesting opportunity to be exposed to somethings that we normally aren’t exposed to and to rub elbows with the same type of folks that we deal with during customer implementations.

Why is it that the more expensive the hotel is the less likely they are to have free internet? The La Quinta has free internet and so does the place in East Lansing Nicole and I stayed at when we visited Michigan last Christmas. However this hotel and the hotel we stayed at in Boston both have daily rates for internet access. And in case you are wondering this $9.99 internet is dog slow.

Anyway I need to be up in about 6 hours and I need to organize my bag to lighten my load tomorrow.

“The Big Bang Theory” pilot on iTunes…

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

You can download “The Big Bang Theory” pilot episode on on iTunes for free…! Ok so it’s not that exciting, but I did watch the show and it was pretty funny. It seems they are taking the drug dealer approach to selling episodes online by giving you the first hit for free.

I think it would be an interesting experiment to drop cable and only watch downloaded TV shows. If you limit your self to one show a day for 7 days a week that’s $13.93 a week; which works out to $55.72 a month. So you’re not saving much over cable, but on the other hand you do own the shows. Anyway it’s a thought.

I need to go get my laundry together. Tomorrow after work Ben and I are driving up to Dallas for the Webmaster Jam on Friday and Saturday. Then Sunday (Ben’s birthday) I fly back to NY.

Geek game…

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

For the past few nights Ben and I have been playing Magic: The Gathering. It’s a card game that came out in the early 90’s. I played for a bit when I came home to visit from my freshman year in college. It’s a fun game but it can be tough to find people who aren’t complete nerds to play with. I’m a geek, but I am not into everything most geeks are so it’s not always easy for me to relate to other geeks. Anyway it’s been fun I really liked playing Magic back in the day.

Stress, Stress, Stress…

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

If there is one universal truth about moving it’s that it is stressful. There are tons of things to deal with and for a certain period of time your life just isn’t normal. Today I had an issue with the apartment people. Nicole and I disagreed on how best to handle the situation. So not only did I have to yell at our leasing agent, but Nicole and I had an argument over it.

Before I left for Austin my doctor’s office called and told me I needed a bone scan since there was a light area on my CAT scan. This has me a bit freaked because if you look up bone scan there is nothing good that it can find. Of course it’s not like they made it seem too urgent. So I guess that’s a good sign.

Anyway I am feeling the stress of it all, but on the bright side next week is my birthday.

And we are here…

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

It’s late or early depending on how you look at it, but either way the first step of our move is complete.

Now it’s time to slip into a coma.

1,000 miles to go…

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

… more or less. So after about 7 hours of sleep we are up, barely. We have another good 15+ hours of driving to do today. On the bright side we do gain and hour of time as we pass in to the central time zone.  Well I had better pack up and get ready to hit the road.

For a recap of yesterdays trip check out Ben’s blog post.

Knoxville, TN…

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Well, about two and half hours later than I had originally predicted; Ben and I finally made it to Knoxville, TN. We got here about 15-20 mins ago and I am not even sure why I am still awake except to post that we are alive and almost half way to Texas.

I will put some coherent thoughts together in the morning.

And we are off…

Friday, September 14th, 2007

The car is packed, Ben and I are pretty much packed, the gas tank is full, and we have a good map of our route. Now all we need to do is eat some breakfast, get showered up and we are off to Austin. Barring any unforeseen delays it should take us about 28-30 hours. We are stopping just outside of Knoxville, TN tonight.

Ben wrote a great post outlining the trip here.

If we find any free internet at any of our stops I will post more later.
